29 June 2012 World-first transit partnership with Groupon
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has joined forces with internet voucher specialist Groupon to offer discounted three-day passes for public transport in the city, starting at the end of June.
The deal offers three days of unlimited travel on CTA, and will generate USD1.89m in immediate revenue for the agency, while offering 250 000 passes for Groupon members for USD9 instead of the face value of USD14 – a saving of 36%.
The offer is limited to four passes per person, and Groupon will own the cards it purchases until they are sold. CTA will receive an upfront payment for the fare cards.
