15 June 2012 Bombardier celebrates successful PRIMOVE test
In late May, Bombardier announced the completion of testing of its PRIMOVE catenary-free current collection system on a branch of the Augsburg tram network using a modified low-floor LRV.
PRIMOVE uses inductive transfer through subterranean magnetic fields, which are picked up via pick-up coils mounted underneath the vehicle to provide motive power. The systems high-efficiency and minimal power losses don’t compromise performance and can significantly reduce energy consumption when combined with an onboard energy storage solution.
The 200kHz induction loops were installed on an 800m spur only used during events at the city's exhibition centre.
André Navarri, Bombardier’s President and Chief Operating Officer, said: ‘We have a bright vision for the cities of tomorrow. We imagine cities where all vehicles are electric – where mass transit vehicles do not alter the landscape but seamlessly integrate to provide quiet and emission-free urban mobility. And most importantly, we create e-mobility for all types of electric vehicles: trams, buses, cars, trucks, taxis.’
