8 March 2010 Stadler wins in Stuttgart

The German subsidiary Stadler Pankow of the Swiss rolling stock builder has been awarded an EUR 77 M contract to builder 20 two-car LRVs for the Stuttgart system, with an option for a further 20. The 38.6-m two-car sets will accommodate 152 passengers (108 seated) and be designed for a top speed of 80 km/h. The first will be delivered at the end of 2012. Stadler will adapt their Tango design, originally developed as a six-axle articulated car for Bochum-Gelsenkirchen, to match Stuttgart's existing DT8 sets, the last of which were supplied by Siemens-Duewag in 2004. SSB is giving a mid-life overhaul to 60 earlier examples of these.
